What's included
6 live meetings
4 in-class hoursHomework
2-4 hours per week. Students will need to work outside of class to view instruction videos and finish their animal drawings. Time depends of the skill, patience, and speed of each individual students, but could range from 1-8 hours a week. Students are expected to upload a picture of their work to the classroom every Friday.Assessment
Students will be given video critiques of their work each week.Class Experience
During this course, students will be taught different techniques that will help them draw colored pencil animals realistically, and create an animal drawing using a photo as reference. The first three weeks of class we will be practicing how to draw different animal features. With provided example photos, the instructor will demonstrate her process for recreating the textures and values in her drawing. Then students will try to recreate the texture and values in the same way. We will look at and discuss the best way to draw different types of fur, hair, feathers, beaks, scales, and skin, eyes, and noses. In weeks 4-6 we will create our own animal drawings. Proportions are important to creating a realistic animal portrait. However, because the focus of my class is on drawing fur and other textures, we will save some time by creating our initial sketches with a grid method. All live meetings are considered work time, and are a designated time to draw. The instructor will be in class to answer any questions and give guidance during live in class. Learners will be required to view a video before class starts that gives the instruction and demonstration for that week. This course requires several hours of homework each week. Week 1: Fur and hair Week 2: Feathers, beaks, scales, and skin. Week 3: Eyes and noses Week 4: Grid out portraits week 5: Continue drawing week 6: Background
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of colored pencil technique, drawing different textures, and visually assessing values.
