Party guests will be guided through the process of using royal icing to decorate cookies. No special tools or prior knowledge required! Materials Needed Prior to Class: -Royal Icing Ingredients: confectioners' sugar, meringue powder, water, gel food coloring (You are welcome to use any royal icing recipe. I use a recipe that doesn't use raw egg whites. It uses meringue powder instead. Wilton brand meringue powder is sold in craft stores for $5.99. Gel food coloring is recommended when adding color to your icing. This can also be found in craft stores.) -Bowls and spoons to mix icing and colors -Electric Stand or Hand Mixer -Quart size food storage bags to fill with icing -Rubberbands -Your own recipe, ingredients, cookie cutters needed to bake sugar cookies Materials Needed for Class: -Sugar cookies to decorate -Prepared bags of royal icing (as many colors as you'd like to use) -Wax paper or plate to put under cookies when decorating -Toothpicks -Scissors to cut the tips off of the icing bags -Embellishments (colored sugar, sprinkles, etc.) -Paper towels
Parents may need to assist learners in baking and preparing icing prior to class time.
