Color Guard: Rifle for Beginners
In this one-time class, students will learn the basics of how to hold, spin, and toss a wooden rifle in a performance color guard (not an ROTC color guard).

This course will teach students the following positions/moves: right and left flat, drop spins, paddle (aka. "row boat") spins, and a traditional concert toss. No prior experience is needed since this is a very flexible, workshop-style class. This course will be very reliant on the video aspect of Zoom since students will observe hand placement, flag location, and foot placement via video. (Enabling video is not required, but it is highly recommended due to the workshop structure of this class.)
Learning Goals
Students will be able to perform the following positions/moves: right and left flat, drop spins, paddle spins (aka. "row boat spins"), and traditional concert tosses.
Students will able to perform with correct technique and stance.

Parental Guidance
This course requires the spinning and tossing of wooden rifles, which can cause minor injuries if not used appropriately.
Supply List
Students will need to have a wooden rifle. All rifles must meet WGI rifle requirements: length of 30-40 inches, plate height of 4-5 inches, a fabric or leather strap that is securely attached to the wooden rifle body. (If you are looking to by a rifle, I suggest looking at the following websites: www.bandshoppe.com and www.algyteam.com.) Students will also need a water bottle, tennis shoes, clothes that they can exercise in, and a large, open space (preferably outside).
