Beginner Level
In this engaging interactive class, students will participate in songs, TPR exercises and simple games such as "Simon Says," matching activities, color-by-numbers, "I Spy," and more to learn a wide variety of basic Spanish vocabulary sets. Class will be conducted largely in Spanish with English used only for clarification. Language will be made comprehensible through gestures and visuals as I use props and ask students to point to vocabulary items on their coloring sheets as I say them or act out relevant verbs. Students will demonstrate comprehension through yes/no questions, either/or questions, pointing to vocabulary items and coloring their worksheets at the end of class. We will use their coloring pages to both show what they have learned and reinforce new vocabulary items. This class is perfect for absolute beginners or students who want a bit of a refresher. New and recycled vocabulary will be made comprehensible with visuals and gestures each week, so new students can feel free to jump in at any time. Each month, we will explore a different theme to keep learners engaged. Themes will be updated monthly in this description. Suggestions are always welcome! For August/September, we will be reviewing the basics as follows: Week of August 26: El zoológico/The zoo Week of September 2: La granja/The farm Week of September 9: Las mascotas/The pets Week of September 16: Todos los animales/All the animals
Learning Goals
Students will distinguish between new and familiar Spanish vocabulary sets each week including colors, numbers, letters, farm animals, food items and more.
Other Details
Learning Needs
My classes are intentionally planned to suit both neurotypical and neurodiverse students. Frequent opportunities for movement, changing class activities, and visual representations of vocabulary all support ADHD and ASD.
Parental Guidance
Students will need coloring sheets printed ahead of time (these are posted in the classroom each week). Third-party tools (Nearpod and LiveWorksheets) will not be used in class except by me. I will screenshare these games and allow students to participate collectively. After class, I may post the same activity for students to complete on their own as reinforcement of what we've learned. These activities do not require an account and are optional.
Pre-Requisites
Whether your child has taken Spanish classes before or is new to Spanish, all are welcome!
