As a follow up for my For You They Signed series on America's founders, students will learn how to cook, colonial style! We will learn how to cook a new dish each day that was a favorite of our founding fathers. This is a week long camp, meeting 4 times in one week. Students will follow step by step with the teacher to cook their dishes. Day 1: Mixed greens, carrots, broccoli, vinegar, herbs, vegetable or olive oil Day 2: New England cheese kit that can be purchased here and any type of bacon https://www.everythingkitchens.com/new-england-cheesemaking-30-min-kit-k2.html Day 3: Ingredients for hoe cakes: 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast 2 1/2 cups white cornmeal, divided 3 to 4 cups lukewarm water 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 large egg, lightly beaten Melted butter for drizzling and serving Honey or maple syrup for serving Day 4: Ingredients for homemade ice cream - 1 cup heavy cream 2 tbsp. granulated sugar 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract 3 c. ice 1/3 c. kosher salt Toppings of your choice
2 hours 40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
