Description

Class Experience

Modeled after college creative writing workshops, students will write their own short stories, and participate in workshops for their stories and the stories of others. Writing workshops are one of the best ways to hone ones writing craft.  Students will learn from each other, the teacher, the works of published writers, and themselves.

I have a BA in English and Creative Writing and an MA in English with a Writing Emphasis.  I have participated in countless writing workshops, and they were honestly my favorite part of my education. They are exhilarating and extremely educational.  They are one of the best ways to hone your writing craft.  Students will learn from each other, the teacher, the works of published writers, and themselves.

During the semester, every student will write at least two short stories.  Every week, students will have short stories to read and critique, and readings from books and selections.

Students will need access to On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King and Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott.  All other selections read in class will be provided.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
