Description
Class Experience
By the end of this 8-week course, students will have developed the basic skills needed to successfully analysis a modern piece of literature. Students will feel more confident in writing an essay, expressing opinions in a discussion group, posting opinion paragraph on an online discussion board, and keeping a reading journal.
I have taught this course as a college professor at universities in Ecuador, Costa Rica and South Korea. I have a Master of Professional Writing, Nonfiction (similar to a MFA) from USC in Los Angeles. As a graduate student, I studied various literary genres, including fiction, and focused on creative nonfiction, where I used elements of fiction writing to enhance my nonfiction writing. Throughout the years, I have participated in numerous book clubs, where books are discussed and analyzed. Presently, I participate in monthly bookclub.
Each week, students will be expected to complete several tasks outside of the class. This is good preparation for a completing projects independently as a college student.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will receive a grading rubric for the essay.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
