Class Experience

Students will learn how to write the strongest and most creative personal statements and short answer responses for their university applications; they will learn what is needed on Common App to make their resume the most competitive for admissions officers; they will learn about various colleges, programs, majors, and scholarships available to them based on their interest; and they will get the opportunity to get real feedback on their current college application essays each week from myself as well as their peers.
I have a Master's Degree in English and Education and have been working in education for eight years now. I have experience as both a teacher and college counselor working with students in the USA, China, Vietnam, and Portugal by helping them grow as writers as well as advising them on the school of their dreams. I currently am a university counselor in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and I've helped thousands of students go through the university application process, helping students get into schools all over the world as well as Top State Colleges and IVY League Universities. My background and skill set is valuable for a student who is either homeschooled or does not have a university counselor at their current school or that even wants more individualized help on their essays and applications. I look forward to taking this overwhelming task and making it fun for the student!
Students are encouraged to constantly revise their work so I can continue to give feedback in real time since this is a flexible schedule class. Students are expected to watch my weekly video which explains the weekly topic as well as assignment for that week; then, the student will work to complete those tasks as well as communicating with myself and the other learners in the classroom as we engage in real-time discussions, collaborative-projects, and assignments about the university application process.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learner progress is assessed through written feedback on their essay submissions. This will happen at the end of each week, but during the week students will be getting their work peer-edited as well as having informal commentary on discussions, polls, and projects we complete in the classroom.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
