1-2 hours per week. Learners will complete most of their writing outside of class, and how long it takes each week depends on the length of their story.Assessment
I will informally assess learners' growth in conversation and writing skills as the weeks progress.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
Intermediate - Advanced Level
In this class, we will be using the step-by-step writing process to write a science fiction short story using all the sci-fi tropes that readers love! The learner's story will be written independently, but we will collaborate at each step. The topics covered will be the steps of the writing process: brainstorming and planning, editing, revising, and finishing a piece. We will circle back to a step if necessary. The learner will create their own piece. This class will be both teacher and student-led. During the first class, I will explicitly teach the main steps of the writing process. Outside of class, the learner will begin writing. We will discuss the learner's writing during each class. We may write some in class but most writing will be done outside of class. First, I will introduce the writing process. We will discuss it and share ideas about what learners would like to write about. The learner may begin writing outside of class or continue working on ideas. Next, we will review the steps of the writing process. Learners may share what they’ve brainstormed and anything they have done during the pre-writing step. We will discuss editing and revising and editing and revise the learner's work. We will do this together. Learners should have a finished piece or be very close after approximately 6 to8 weeks. I will be available via Outschool messages outside of class.
