Collaborative Creative Writing, Mystery

In this class, the learner will use the Five—Step writing process to write a mystery short story. The learner’s story (or stories) will be written independently, but we will collaborate as much as needed along the way. The topics covered will be the steps of the writing process: brainstorming and planning, editing, revising, and finishing a piece. We will circle back to a step if necessary. Learners will become more fluent and confident in conversation skills such as active listening, affirming others’ comments, and receiving critique and encouragement. Learners will become more confident and fluent in reading aloud. Learners will become better and more confident writers. Learners will develop critical thinking skills by considering their and others’ ideas and writing. Learners will better understand how to use mystery tropes in stories in ways that are enjoyable for a reader. Learners will better understand how stories are formed, including literary elements such as characters, setting, plot, etc. Learners will better understand how published works are created, including brainstorming, collaborating with others, writing and rewriting, etc.
