Homework
1-2 hours per week. Learners will complete most of their writing outside of class, and how long it takes each week depends on the length of their story.Assessment
I will informally assess learners' growth in conversation and writing skills as the weeks progress.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
Intermediate - Advanced Level
In this class, we will be using the step-by-step writing process to write a fantasy story, incorporating the fantasy tropes that readers love! The learner's story will be written independently, but we will collaborate at each step. The topics covered will be the steps of the writing process: brainstorming and planning, editing, revising, and finishing a piece. We will circle back to a step if necessary. This class will be both teacher and student-led. During the first class, I will explicitly teach the main steps of the writing process. Next, the learners will begin using the writing process in their own writing. During each class, we will discuss what the learner has written so far, and then edit and revise together. The learner will also be expected to edit and revise on their own outside of class. Week 1: I will introduce the writing process. We will discuss it and share ideas about what the learner would like to write about. The learner may begin writing outside of class or continue thinking of ideas. Week 2: We will review the steps of the writing process. Learners may share what they’ve brainstormed or any writing they may have begun. Weeks 3, 4, and 5: We will discuss editing and revising. The learner and I will discuss what they've written so far and work together to edit and revise the work. Week 6: Learners should have a finished piece or be very close. I will be available via email outside of class.
