In this class, we will be using the step-by-step writing process to write a fantasy story, incorporating the fantasy tropes that readers love! The learner's story will be written independently, but we will collaborate at each step. The topics covered will be the steps of the writing process: brainstorming and planning, editing, revising, and finishing a piece. We will circle back to a step if necessary. Learners will become better and more confident writers. Learners will develop critical thinking skills by considering their and others’ ideas and writing. Learners will better understand how to use fantasy tropes in stories in ways that are enjoyable for a reader. Learners will better understand how stories are formed, including literary elements such as characters, setting, plot, etc. Learners will better understand how published works are created, including brainstorming, collaborating with others, writing and rewriting, etc. Learners will become more fluent and confident in conversation skills such as active listening, affirming others’ comments, and giving and receiving critiques and opinions. Learners will become more confident and fluent in reading aloud.
Taught 4 years of Writer's Workshop. Excelled in Writing for Teachers and Creative Writing classes in college. Have been blogging for different sites throughout my adult life. Written curricula for public schools, homeschooling, and religious organizations.
Homework Offered
Learners will complete most of their writing outside of class, and how long it takes each week depends on the length of their story.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
