Class Experience

In this highly interactive one-time class, we will work together to choreograph our own original dance. We will learn how dancers and choreographers use the 8-count system to create their dances, explore different movement styles, and create at least one 8-count of movement each for our dance. Each class will start with a brief check-in. We'll warm up our bodies to ensure we are physically ready to dance and then warm up our imaginations to ensure our minds are ready to create. We'll use the song we are dancing to as part of our warm-up, so Learners will be familiar with the song even if they've never heard it before. We'll discuss how the song makes us feel and makes us want to move. Then we will take turns creating at least one 8-count each of movement that fits our style and learning the other 8-counts from our fellow choreographers.

Dancers of all skill and experiences levels are welcome. A crucial part of choreography is working with the skill level of your dancers, so there will be learning opportunities for all involved.

As this class is highly creative and collaborative, Learners will have many opportunities to share. But to ensure the quality of the music for all while we dance, Learners will but muted during music play. Therefore, I highly recommend familiarizing your Learner with how they mute/unmute themselves. I have also become pretty skilled at helping even our tiniest friends find their mute button, but being familiar with this function will benefit them across all their classes on Outschool.

The only requirements for this class are: a small, clear space for movement (aim for 5ftx5ft square), clothes you can move in, dance shoes (socks or bare feet acceptable), a water bottle, and because of the physical nature of the class learners will be required to keep their cameras on throughout the class, and an adult-supervisor is recommended.

Please be advised that for your Learner's safety, it is of the utmost importance parents be aware of any potential hazards. Please ensure that your Learner has an open space, proper footwear, water, and adequate supervision to prevent injuries. This is a physical class, and we will be stretching and warming up safely, but please equip your Leaner with all the tools they need to succeed!

This class is inclusive, which means Learners of all abilities and backgrounds are welcome. Together we work to build an inclusive environment that encourages, supports and celebrates our diverse voices. We share and respect pronouns, we support each other's Learning differences, and we create a safe space for all Learners. If your Learner needs any accommodations, please let me know, and we will work together to ensure that they have the best possible class experience.

All music is used courtesy of licensing agreements with ASCAP and BMI.
