Description

Class Experience

Students will be able to identify the coins: penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and understand their values.

Students will be able to add 2 or more coins together to create a total amount, as well as determine if they can "buy" an item with that particular amount.

Overall, students will have an introductory understanding of coins and their purpose.
Ability to add coins together to create different amounts may vary among students (depending on their understanding of addition).
I have previously taught this course to small groups of students through a tutoring company. I have carefully selected the materials and carried out these lessons with students previously. I have found that students enjoy the hands-on experience of working with money and learning about money by using real coins.
Students will need...

-the printed handouts (which are teacher provided)
-a pencil
-10 pennies
-5 nickels
-10 dimes
-4 quarters
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress will be assessed through "check-ins" (having students try a problem on their own) for understanding
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
