Coding with Scratch: Let's Make Games Level 3

In this 6-week semester online course, students will learn to create two games: Pac-Man and a platformer game. They will also create their own game. Students will use art, music, coding and much more to create visually beautiful games.

Class Experience

Advanced Level
Students will be taught coding by using the blocked-based visual programming language called Scratch. This class will teach students more difficult games.  This class will allow learners to use critical thinking skills. Students require to have taken our "Coding: Let's Make Games Level 2" course or one from another organization. Students should have made 9 games minimum on Scratch. Experience is required.

This class is very interactive and focuses on project based learning. This class promotes creativity and innovation. Students will have many opportunities to ask questions when needed.

Week 1- Introductions to Independent Game and Pac-Man Game Part I
Week 2- Pac-Man Game Part II
Week 3- Independent Game (No new tutorial will be taught)
Week 4- Platform Game Part I
Week 5- Platform Game Part II
Week 6- Present Independent Game (Students will be able to share their projects and play each others work)

Independent Game:

Students will have the opportunity to create their own game during class. I will discuss about the details needed during week 1. In week 3, students will begin to work on making their own game and get assistance from the teacher during class. Week 6 the students will have the opportunity to present their projects and play them in class. I will be providing feedback and recommendations on improving their game.

SCRATCH LEVELS:

Everyone on Outschool teaches Scratch differently. Our level system is different from other teachers. If this is your first class. I recommend sending us a message about the projects your child has done. We can provide recommendations on which level would be appropriate. We will try our best to place them in the correct level. It can be difficult to assess the correct level when we have not taught the child prior.st to place them in the correct level. ----------------------------REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS:
Coding:
1. Students will be required to have a desktop computer or a laptop to take this class in order to code on Scratch 3.0. Students should not be using tablets or iPad's.
2. Students are required to have a keyboard during class, this will help them code.
3. Students may take the class with one device but they will need to have two screens opened at the same time. 
4. Students are required to have an account with Scratch. This will help them save their projects. The website is: https://scratch.mit.edu/
Zoom:
1. It is strongly encouraged to have two devices. One device for Zoom (laptop, desktop computer or tablet) and a second device for coding (no tablets or iPad's).
