Class Experience

Lesson is aimed for students who have experience with Scratch Jr. app.  Students will work on the basics of programming, problem solving and critical thinking skills using Scratch Jr. 

In this one time class, students will create a digital project.  Teacher will model and provide step by step instructions, but students are free to modify and make this project their own if ready.  

Students will work on the following skills:  
- create/modify characters 
- create/modify backgrounds 
- code one or more characters
- use the message command
- use the hide command
- add speech bubble 

Students will need to download the app: Scratch Jr. before class. App is available on iPad or Chromebook.  Please join class using a different device in order to see my screen while you code.

You must download the Scratch Jr. app before class. This app is free and does not require an account to use. You can download to an iPad or Chromebook.

Hello! My name is Cynthia Burleigh. I live in Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor in Science in Information Systems. I started my career in a banking institute, but quickly realized I wanted to become a teacher. I have been working in education for 15 years, 3 years teaching with Outschool. I am Bilingual Certified - speak English and Spanish and teach Bilingual and ESL students. My teaching experience includes: Robotics, Codings, Spanish, Pre K - 3rd grade Bilingual instruction, Bilingual Reading Specialist, and STEM teacher. 

I love to teach Reading, Math, Spanish, Technology and STEM (including robotics). I love spending time with family, teaching, and running. A little fun fact about me...I run marathons for fun! I can't wait to see you in class.
