Class Experience
Do you want to be in control of when and where you learn? Then Coding JAVA like a Boss Flex Edition is for you! UPDATE! This course is now CHROMEBOOK compatible as we will be using an online repl in order to write our code. All devices with a keyboard and internet access are acceptable for taking this course! Students will be offered a crash course in Java programming using the Eclipse programming environment. If students have an interest in writing code, this class will get them started, assuming they have never before written a line of code. Students will be given enough tools and material during the endurance of this course to go out on their own and explore the never ending world of Java. All students need is a computer and the ability to work and learn in an online environment. Topics include print statements, variables, if/else statements, user input, loops and strings. All material will be administered in a series of You Tube Instructional videos. Guaranteed 10+ hours of instructional and student activity time. After every two lessons, students will be assigned a project that they will submit to the instructor in order to check for understanding. At the completion of the course, students will be assigned a final project to summarize their learning from the entire course and given hours and hours of more resources that can encourage them to continue on their learning journey in Java. This flex edition is a great option for students regardless of time zone, or where and when you want to work on your lessons. Each lesson has a project that the student will submit to the instructor for approval. Upon approval, the student can move into the next lesson. Students are encouraged to ask for clarification, extra resources and to share their projects in demo form with the other students on the classroom portal.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, my name is Alan. I am a Computer Science teacher, and have been for 11 years. It wasn't as popular when I started but I have seen it grow tremendously over the last decade. Now, everyone wants to learn how to code. Coding online can be fun, there are many games to play and learn from, but the ability to think critically and write code is still challenging and essential and learning the fundamentals of Java can take you a long way. Something fun and personal...I love individuality, I grew up skateboarding and playing guitar...I think I love coding because like skateboarding and guitar all you need is...well...YOU, oh ya and a computer! : )
