Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this exciting 4-week coding class, students will dive into artificial intelligence (AI) concepts and create interactive games on Scratch! Each week, they'll code a new project, such as a game where users play against the computer, a platformer using gravity mechanics, and a self-driving car. Students will learn key programming concepts like AI, conditionals, booleans, and the coordinate system. The class is fully asynchronous, with one video lesson each week, step-by-step project instructions, quizzes, and opportunities for feedback. Students will receive weekly feedback from the teacher and can interact with classmates through Scratch and Outschool's messaging system. The teacher is available for questions at all times, with responses typically within 24 hours. No prior experience required—just a free Scratch account to get started! _________________________________________________________________ 🤓 What will be taught? 1. Students will learn how to code two different games on Scratch using AI concepts. 2. Students will code a cool paltformer and learn about booleans and logic. 3. Students will code a cool self-driving car. ************************************************* 👨🚀 What topics will you cover? 1. Artificial intelligence 2. The coordinate system 3. Booleans 4. Conditionals ************************************************ What's your teaching style? I teach students using project based learning. Every lesson will include programming a game or animation. **************************************************** How much will learners get to interact with you and each other? Students will follow each other on Scratch and exchange feedback on their projects. The teacher will provide weekly feedback through the Outschool messaging system and inside the virtual classroom. ***************************************************** Any required experience or knowledge learners need? Students will need to access the Scratch website and open a free account prior to their first class. All instructions will be provided in the video. *************************************************** How is your class structured? At the start of each week, students will access: 1. A video lesson where the student will learn how to create a video game using step by step instructions while also learning basic programming concepts as they are applied to the project in motion. 2.This class is project based with a big emphasis on learning about artificial intelligence. 3. A weekly quiz covering the coding concepts used in the video game of the week. 4. Students will publish their completed game for evaluation by the teacher. 5. All projects, worksheets, and discussion posts for the prior week will be due by Sunday at 8:00pm EST 6. Students will receive weekly feedback from the teacher. 7. Students may ask questions and interact with each other and the teacher, via the comment feature in the Outschool classroom. The teacher is available at all times, and may answer within 24 hours. Lesson plan by week can be found under the syllabus section. Student and teacher interaction: Students message teacher through the learner messaging system in Outschool or by posting a comment under the week’s material. Students may also post the links to their Scratch projects in our virtual classroom for feedback from teachers and classmates.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basics of artificial intelligence, applying it to create games where the user competes against a computer-controlled opponent.
Students will design and code a platformer game, exploring gravity mechanics, player movement, and interactive game elements.
