Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
Welcome to Coding 4 Kids with Minecraft, a fun and engaging course that combines the popular game Minecraft with the exciting world of coding. In this course, students in grades 2-5 will learn the basics of programming using Minecraft Education's built-in code editor. Over the course of five days, our student-centered learning approach with collaborative projects will provide an introduction to programming, virtual agents using programming & AI, communication, and cooperation.

Throughout the program, participants will be encouraged to build free-form projects while learning how to use Code Builder tools, design games, solve problems, and set goals. Students will be taught how to identify situations where code can work for us, as well as how to communicate and cooperate effectively with others.

Our course is structured to provide maximum learning and engagement for young learners. Each class meeting is three hours long, with classes held once a day for five days. During this time, students will interact with the instructor, as well as each other, through various activities, including lecture, games, slides, video clips, and discussions. All of these activities are designed to help students develop their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, while also encouraging them to be creative and innovative in their approach to learning.

No prior programming experience is necessary for this course, as we will start with the basics and work our way up. However, participants should be comfortable using keyboards or touchscreens to read and follow instructions. By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in programming concepts and will be able to apply what they have learned to other areas of their lives.

Our camp curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including an introduction to programming with Code Builder, the basics of virtual agents using programming & AI, identifying situations where code can work for us, and communication and cooperation. Our teaching style is student-centered and collaborative, with a focus on problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Students will be encouraged to work together on projects, share their ideas and solutions, and learn from each other's successes and challenges.
Day 1 - Students will learn the History of Minecraft and What is new, Learn how to build a one chunk challenge, learn how to use code builder, Use Code Builder to make it rain chickens and grant effects
Day 2 - Students will Learn how to use code to clone structures, Learn how to code triggering events and outcomes, Code your own teleporters to take you home as we expand our very own code town
Day 3 - Learn to use code to fill large areas, Explore coding through the agent to automate processes
Day 4 - Learn how code commands can be used to create large structures, Use fill codes & clone commands to build large structures for Code Town
Day 5 - 9 - Learn how to save structures and builds in Minecraft and work on more and more complex coding challenges.
