Code Dog Man Games and Stories in Scratch- Digital Art, Animation and Coding

Coding is the new literacy! 

Let's learn/practice coding by making Dog Man games and interactive Dog Man stories. Dog Man is a popular character in the children's graphic novel series by Dav Pilkey.

On this 8-day, students will make characters, environments, games, and stories in Scratch. Scratch is a popular block-based programming language developed by MIT.

In this class will work on the same project together step by step. In the first two meetings, we will create the character and the environment. We will save our artwork and use it in the third meeting to create a unique Dog Man game in Scratch. We will draw more characters and backdrops to make new stories and games for other classes. 

The students will be able to share what they are making, get feedback from other learners and interact with them during our classes.

Tentative Topic List- Schedule 

First class/Day 1: We will Draw a Background/environment for our game. Students will learn/practice using drawing and painting tools on the Scratch website. 
-Second class/Day 2: We will Draw a Dog Man character. Students will practice using the brush tool, reshape and select tools, and more to make a unique digital artwork that can be used in their future games. 
-Third class/Day 3: Jumping Dog Man game. Students will use code blocks such as events, loops, and variables.
-Fourth class/Day 4: Draw another character from the book.
-Fifth class/Day 5: Draw a second environment or prop.
-Sixth class/Day 6: Dog Man hide and seek game
-Eighth class/Day 8: Shooter game using our previous characters and drawings

Experience:
Everyone is welcome! No prior Scratch coding experience is required. Knowing some coding wouldn't hurt.

Important:
Students need to see my screen share in Zoom at the same time they should be able to work on their projects.
Students need to be comfortable using a computer. Having an adult nearby would be helpful at the beginning of our class.
Knowing how to click, right-click, drag, and drop is required.

Recommended:
Having a mouse is helpful but not required only if the learner knows how to right-click, drag and drop without a mouse. If you have a Dog Man book or printed page bring it to class to use as a reference.
