Class Experience

Back by student and parent demand, it’s part two of Code Breakers Club! In this engaging and challenging one time class, students with previous knowledge of Montessori grammar symbols will continue to practice being code breakers! This class is ideal for learners who have taken any of my grammar symbols classes before, but it’s not a requirement.
In this session, we’ll begin with introductions ( name, age and favorite ice cream!) and a brief overview of the class rules.
Next, we’ll have a review of the grammar symbols and what their part of speech is. This will be done through Canva slides and real grammar symbols. To be code breakers, learners will be shown new and interesting pictures (4 total) with an assortment of grammar symbols below it. Then, they will create a sentence that matches the symbols and describes the picture. Responses will vary and there is no “correct “ answer. It will be fun to see what creative and unique sentences our learners come up with. (I’ll provide my own as well). We’ll do a sample sentence together which should be relatively simple as a warm up.
Later, as an extension, students will be shown one last photo and have the opportunity to create their own code to go with it. The rest of the group will try to crack their code, or the teacher’s!
Please join me for another fun, student centered class which will reinforce parts of speech skills and creative writing together!
Students should have some basic writing skills to participate in this class.

Learning Goals

Students will deepen and improve their understanding of the parts of speech through Montessori Grammar Symbols based writing practice.

Hello! I am so excited to teach your kiddos on Outschool! I have a degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching over 20 years. I also have a specialty Montessori certificate in grades 1-3, and a TESOL certification credential. For nine years I specialized as a learning Title I learning support teacher with a focus in reading and writing in the language arts curriculum with 5-9 year olds. I have taught 1st and 2nd grade in a Montessori classroom. I love helping children learn to read by teaching the fundamental skills of early reading, grammar and writing. I also teach many cultures themed lessons for learners where we can enjoy exploring topics of our planet and space together!
I love to help children learn and be successful in the classroom through fun and engaging activities. I like to make classes challenging and rewarding for students, and I have a very student centered approach, which is aligned with the Montessori teaching philosophy. I think of myself as a guide, who always strives to meet children at their instructional level.
Outside of teaching, I am a mother of adult boy/girl twins. My husband and I have a senior rescue terrier named Sandy and we love to go for long walks. I also enjoy living a very healthy lifestyle which includes walking, hiking, yoga, running and enjoying nature whenever possible!
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me. I hope to see your child in the classroom soon!
