Students will learn about AI while they code two different games that use AI concepts. Students will also make a super cool platformer game while learning how to code gravity with booleans and logic.
Class experience
In this exciting coding class, students will learn about artificial intelligence concepts, creating games where users play against the computer, and using gravity for designing platformer games. This is a four week class with no live meetings. Student will view one lesson each week and complete the project required each week. Students will then receive feedback from the teacher. Week 1Lesson 1Intro to Artificial Intelligence- Programming a Chat BotConcepts learned: Broadcast, conditionals, Sprites, Backdrops.Week 2Lesson 2Artificial Intelligence-Gaming against the computer.Concepts learned: The coordinate system, variables, and sounds. Assignments: Student will complete the project, feedback to another student, and the worksheet for weekWeek 3Lesson 3Artificial Intelligence- Autonomous CarConcepts learned: Boolean variables, sensors. Assignments: Student will complete the project, feedback to another student, and the worksheet for weekWeek 4Lesson 4Platformer Game- Coding gravityConcepts learned: Gravity, jumping, multi-level gaming.
At the end of this five week course, students will be able to: -Create their own video games on Scratch. -Understand how artificial intelligence works. -Code a program where a sprite can learn and answer simple questions. -Code a self-driving car using sensors. -Make a multi-level platformer game. -Know how and when to use if/then conditional blocks, loops, and variables. -Know how to use the sensing, sounds, and operator blocks. -Cooperate with other students to provide constructive feedback.
Students will need a laptop or desktop to complete the coding projects and another device to view the lesson videos.
