*Students will be actively coding in this class and may benefit from assistance by an adult.* In this coding class, students will learn to code their own Halloween game using various events and simple loops on the Tynker website. First, students can feel free to wear their Halloween costumes and will have a chance to share something “spooky” with the class and introduce themselves. Then, they will then learn to create their own two-dimensional Halloween game with guidance from the teacher. We will be actively coding for the whole class, and this is a great way build confidence. The class is tailored with beginner coding learners in mind. Students will practice using their analytical skills to code their actor to move from left to right between barriers on the stage on the Tynker website. *Students will need to have Tynker subscription and a second laptop/computer for this class (This class does require a subscription).
Learning Goals
Students will actually code a Halloween game and come away from class with a game that they can play or share with friends and family. They will build confidence in their problem solving skills through guidance and support from the teacher.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am married with an eleven year old, and we live in North Carolina. We love being outdoors as a family, and we are very lucky to split our time between the beautiful coast and mountains of our state.
I love reading with children, and I specialize in phonics, letter sounds, word-building, and sounding out words with young readers. This helps beginning readers learn to read quickly and independently! My son was reading well before entering kindergarten. I loved volunteering weekly in both his kindergarten and first grade classrooms. I have a B.A. in English from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and I also earned a TESOL certificate from International Open Academy. I have been teaching children as young as three years old online for over 6 years. It is my passion! I look forward to seeing you in the classroom!
