Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
There are over 4 thousand colleges and universities in the U.S.

Teens that are considering college are welcomed to join my small cohort of college-bound learners.

** Please note, due to the high-touch nature and individual nature of college coaching, I can only maintain a small roster- I generally have the most openings at the younger ages but may not be able to accommodate a brand new senior. **

Given enough time, my purpose is to coach young people as they:
1. Learn what higher education is, what the institutions offer and how to access this;
2. Learn how college is changing and what this means to them;
3. Determine how to build the skills and experiences that will prepare them to excel in college;
4. Consider what courses of study would be ideal for them;
5. Build a compelling resume of experiences;
6. Create an application plan;
7. Understand which schools would be best fit institutions and why;
8. Apply for schools;
9. Make a plan to pay for school;
10. Select which school to attend;
11. Prepare for success away from home (or from home but as an newly-minded adult!)

My coaching support is long-term and focused on the needs of each teen and I am best suited for families that wish to invest the time and effort to find the best options.

Learning Goals

Teens will learn about themselves and how to achieve their goals for the future.
Teens will learn how to research and weigh the many college options by applying decision science, data analysis and critical thinking skills to the institutions, themselves and the world in general.

In my early years in education, both high school and college, I learned that young people were not equipped to select their best fit colleges because the adults were not investing enough time guiding them.

So, after learning that teens sometime chose schools due to the school color, where their friends are going, what is close, or what someone told them- which often resulted in very expensive disasters- I began working with teens and tween as well as their families, for better outcomes. Since 2008 I have guided students through the college-choice journey with great success, with students attending top colleges, top programs and crafting amazing journeys (some very non-traditional!).

Technology has allowed me to shift from meeting student at home to meeting them virtually - which I have done for students as far away as China. I have worked with several organizations and have guided teens through successful applications to The University of California and other flagship public schools, Brown University and other Ivy League schools, Hampton University and other HBCUs, and MIT and other elite college.

Improvements in Outschool now allow me to transition my coaching community to Outschool!! This allows for more flexibility but I still must limit my roster of students receiving college coaching.

Note- I am not skilled in the NCAA process and thus not a good resource for those seeking athletic scholarships at D1 schools.
