Class Experience

***NOTE*** As of July 2022, this class has been phased out due to teacher and family preferences regarding age groupings. Please see my teen classes for 13-18 and my tween classes for 8-12. Returning families who previously participated in a middle-school section are encouraged to contact me, and I can direct you to the section with your previous cohort.

I am flexible regarding ages for any of my classes. Please feel free to message me with any questions or concerns.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Psychology from Lesley University
I am a board-certified music therapist and licensed mental health counselor. I offer courses in music and expressive arts, life skills, and self-advocacy. I am happy to put together courses upon request. I aim to teach my classes in a way that is inclusive and affirming to LGBTQ+ youths, neurodivergent learners, and youths of all racial/ethnic/religious/economic backgrounds. Intersectionality is important to me, so if you are looking at LGBTQ clubs and would like to find a section that will provide your learner with fellow students of color, fellow disabled students, etc., message me and I will be happy to guide you, or I can recommend other teachers whose life experience more directly reflects your student's intersectional identities.

In late 2019, I began creating the first spaces on Outschool for LGBTQ+ youths, as my own family was noticing a number of single-gender classes on a self-professed inclusive platform, along with a handful of courses teaching about LGBTQ history and culture, but no spaces for nonbinary, trans, or gender-expansive youth. As of 2022, there are literally hundreds of LGBTQ+ spaces on the platform, along with other important affinity spaces (racial, ethnic, autistic, disability, etc.) led by adults with these lived experiences.

In my personal life, I am a queer-identified individual, have experience as a foster and adoptive parent, and am currently homeschooling my neurodivergent/2E queer teen. Our life is filled with urban bicycling, lots of Mexican and Caribbean food, trips to museums, puns, rescue cats, and playing chamber music together.

I am flexible regarding ages for classes, and I trust that you know your youth the best. However, I ask families to be realistic and mindful in considering where your youth fits in best. I do include in my course descriptions what type of literacy skills, zoom skills, etc. are recommended for being successful in a course. In the case of youths whose skills in certain areas may not align with peers', please choose the age range you feel fits the best and just include in the note section which skills are lagging and how to best accommodate.

Note: If making a schedule request on a class page, please also message me directly, as I do not get notification of these. Also, I've shifted around the age ranges and titles of some of my LGBTQ clubs, so please message me if you are returning and cannot find your youth's previous cohort and I will be happy to help. Thank you.
