Class Experience

By the end of the class, students should be able to do the following:

•	Participate as part of a larger group during learning activities
•	Take turns when answering questions
•	Sing the traditional Alphabet Song with increased accuracy
•	Sing a phonics song/cheer that helps your child make a connection between each alphabet letter, its sound, and one word that
        begins with that letter’s sound
•	Identify by sight several upper case alphabet letters, verbalize the letter sound for those identified letters, and cite one word that
        begins with the identified letter

For me, teaching is a personal mission. I am a retired educator who chooses to continue teaching part-time. I have nearly 10 years experience teaching children Pre-K through Grade 8 in core curriculum subjects, and 20+ years experience in new program and curriculum development in a variety of business and educational environments and platforms.

I am passionate about preparing 4-5 year old children for kindergarten, and augmenting the academic skills of kindergartners and first graders.

The Pre-K children that I taught recently in my brick-and-mortar classroom were wholly absorbed in the robust learning activities that took place there every day. During these times, we focused on fun and challenging activities in Phonics, Writing, Reading, Math, Science, Geography, History, Vocabulary, Music, Art, and French. My proven expertise is that 90% of my Pre-K class's graduating 4 and 5 year olds performed the following phenomenal tasks: counted accurately to 200, and 1-20 en Français; visually recognized all 26 upper and lower case alphabet letters; correctly identified the letter sound of each alphabet letter and listed at least two words for each alphabet letter; legibly wrote their first names; answered that there are 50 states and named an average of 8 states; identified their state and city, and spelled each; located Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania on a map; verbally and visually identified the eight planets, and listed them in order; explained planetary movements and terrestrial events such as rotation, revolution, and eclipse; explain the refraction of light, and identified the seven colors of a prism in order--in English and French; explained the water cycle; correctly identified and name the basic anatomy of a frog, cat, plant; I was able to develop one of my recent Pre-K graduates from a total non-reader to the astounding ability to read on-the-fly (with inflection and perfection) "Oh the Places You'll Go" at her graduation ceremony.

There is no homework for this class.

However, since practice does make for strengthened abilities, students are encouraged to practice Phonics Workout learning activities at home.

I intend to email my Master Introductory Phonics List to the enrolling parent for each student. This list will include the class words used for the alphabet letters. As parents, it will be helpful if you make a stack of simple upper case alphabet cards. Cue your child’s response by holding one card at a time sequentially, and await your child’s response, which will be sung or cheered out. As your child’s skills increase, you may select a random alphabet card to cue a response from your child.

SINCE THIS CLASS IS INTENDED AS AN INTRODUCTION TO LETTER SIGHT AND SOUND RECOGNITION, IT MAY BE ADVISABLE TO RE-ENROLL YOUR CHILD UPON CLASS COMPLETION, TO MAXIMIZE YOUR CHILD'S SKILLS ACQUISITION IN PHONICS. Please consider re-enrolling your child to fortify your child's grasp of sight and sound letter recognition before enrolling him or her into more advanced Phonics classes, such as Clever Cheetahs Rockin' Cheaters Kindergarten Excellence: Skills Master.
NA Supplementary materials will be provided throughout the class by the teacher, and will be available in our virtual Classroom.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students are assessed informally during class time based on their verbal and physical engagement.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Since the warm-up stretches and Jumping Jacks portion of this class involve full body physical activity, parents should supervise this class to avoid hazards to their child during this activity.

There should be ample, well-ventilated open space for the activity, and students should wear comfortable clothing that facilitates movement. Appropriate footwear should be worn. A water bottle is advised so that students can remain hydrated during and after this activity. Although warm up stretches are conducted prior to the Jumping Jacks, some stretching and warming prior to class is advisable.

Please advise Teacher of any medical restrictions that would make participation in this activity unsafe.
