Teacher expertise and credentials
I started teaching high school math over 14 years ago in a public-school setting until my eldest was born. Since then, I have continued to teach in various settings including public school, community college, individual tutoring, and small online classes, while homeschooling my children. I strive to meet students on their level, figuring out how they learn best, and adjusting my teaching to help them understand and be successful. One of my favorite parts of teaching has been working with small groups of students or one-on-one sessions where I can really get to know the student, their needs, and their learning style. I focus on helping students understand the "why" behind the work they do, and not just the "how". I want them to be critical thinkers, not just human calculators.
I have been teaching through Outschool since August 2019 and I love the opportunities to help students gain confidence and be successful with math! The live online format of this class means your student will get to ask questions and receive specific feedback designed to help them succeed. With so many free video math resources available online, you may be wondering if a "live" class is really worth it. Many of the free resources are wonderful and can be helpful, but having an experienced teacher to explain the concepts, answer questions, and offer immediate feedback is truly invaluable.
