Clay Sculpting for Beginners: Avatar the Last Airbender Summer Camp!
Class experience
Beginner Level
Let's get together every week to sculpt some Avatar: The Last Airbender characters! In this class, we will sculpt one character each week using some beginner sculpting techniques. Each figure free-stands at about two inches tall. This class is excellent for beginners. Students will learn how to form a clay ball, roll a "snake", and use a rolling pin or other tool to create a flat piece of clay. Students will practice cutting out shapes from their rolled clay. Additionally, we will practice...
Students will improve their hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, concentration, and spatial reasoning.
I recommend this sculpt and bake kit: https://a.co/d/bzeawPO It is great for beginners and has tons of useful tools and colors. You are welcome to use any clay you'd like, but this is the set we'll be working with in class. Bake at 275° under a foil tent for 25-30 minutes. After the timer stops, turn off the oven and leave your creation inside for 20-30 minutes to prevent rapid cool down. When clay cools too fast, it can crack. Parchment paper Sarah wrap Ziplock bags (I recommend snack bags). If you do are not buying the above set, you will also need these: Clay - You may use white clay, but we will not be painting in class. I recommend pre-colored clay. Toothpicks Sculpting tools (suggested but not required) Paring knife or exacto knife.
Clay kits include plastic knives and other tools. Younger children may require supervision.
