Clay Animal Art With Sculpting Techniques
Class experience
The art learners will learn how to sculpt clay with their hands using various techniques. We will build on these technique as we sculpt animals. At the end of the course they will get to paint their creations. This art class is for beginners and intermediate learners. Art learners will be able to follow my example and add their own ideas as they learn the techniques. We will be using air drying clay. I will have a specific technique we will focus on for each class. I will also be challenging...
Learners will practice and become fluent in the techniques taught in class while developing their own ideas and style. They will develop an understanding of how to sculpt clay using their hands. This is an important first step if the learners would like to sculpt clay on a pottery wheel or sculpt ceramics someday.
I Have been a children’s art instructor for the past 7 years. I taught ages 7-18 years. This clay class was popular, and my previous students requested it often. I look forward to the art learners at Outschool enjoying it just as much as my previous students have.
Air drying clay - white or grey in color Dental floss (parents please cut clay before each class. I have instructions on how to do that in the class video). Bowl or dish (that does not spill easily. The learners will be dipping their fingers in it to wet the clay). Water filled half full in the bowl. Large Styrofoam plate, plastic plate or cardboard about 8x10 in size (this will be used to put the clay creations on while they are modeling them and while they are drying). Paper and a pencil (to draw ideas). Acrylic paint. Small paint brushes round ones work the best for clay. Zip-lock bags (for unused clay to keep it from drying out).
Please make sure each learner is in a quiet space and they know how to mute and unmute their microphone. How much they get to unmute will depend on how much noise is in the background. Some parent supervision may be required. Clay is messy but easy to clean up and does not stain clothes. Please talk with your child ahead of time where they can wash their clay filled hands when they are done. We need to use a plastic knife for scoring, or you can provide a pencil if you do not want your child to use a plastic knife. If you have a kiln available to use, then you can purchase the kiln firing clay instead of the air-drying clay and the learners may use that for this class. All techniques are the same whether you use air drying clay or kiln firing clay. If you are going to fire the clay in a kiln, please contact me and I will give you specific instructions for that clay including the paint you will need (you will not use the acrylic paint). Please remember that Outschool policy is that only learners can be seen on screen during class.
I am excited for the opportunity to teach art on Outschool. I am looking forward to passing on my art skills and techniques I have learned over the past 25 years that I have been an artist. Currently I offer drawing and painting ongoing and...
