Beginner Level
This is a six-week course taught once a week for one hour. Students will learn to draw the human in simplified forms by learning the musculoskeletal anatomy of the body. They will also learn the details of the face, hands, feet and important concepts of figure drawing. This classical art approach will be taught in lecture style with each student having access to the digital materials attached to the lesson that will help them to follow along and examples to practice from. I will demonstrate how to achieve the renderings in real time and will also take questions as needed.
Learning Goals
Students will learn generalized anatomy for classical art.
Students will learn how bone, muscles, and joints are attached and how a form can or cannot move.
Syllabus
6 Lessons
over 6 WeeksLesson 1:
Head and Neck
This lesson introduces the simple forms used to quickly imagine a person's anatomy with circles and squares. The lesson progresses into the simplified forms of the head and the neck, from the bones to the muscles and skin, from front to back. We will also learn the mathematical measurements to remember when drawing the simplest of sketches to the most detailed of portraits.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Torso, Back and Shoulders
This lesson details the way the chest, shoulders, back, stomach, and pubic region are pieced together anatomically. We will consider the bones and sinews that hold the body together as well as the way muscles are layered to enable movement.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Arms and Hands
This lesson details the bones, joints, and muscles that form the arm, hands and fingers. This lesson will simplify one of the most frustrating skills for figure artists and make it so your student will never again be intimidated by drawing hands.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Legs and Feet
This lesson details how the legs and feet are joined together and the way the bones and muscles move in differing positions. We will look at how joints allow someone to move or not move so we can consider how traditional portraiture should or should not look.
