Beginner Level
In Classical Ballet, Level 1, students will develop and strengthen their ballet technique. Cecchetti principles of ballet will be taught and applied and the memory will be tested with new patterns each class. Class will begin with either stretches on the floor or we may go directly to barre (a barre is not required, a sturdy chair, counter, dresser, etc will suffice). We will then practice our splits and continue to the center for adage (slow movements) and allegro (quick movements). I have a very interactive teaching style. I am happy to answer questions and often ask questions (but don't worry, I won't call on you unless you raise your hand!) Learners do need some basic knowledge, but not a lot. Helpful knowledge includes knowing the following: - Plie -Tendu -Ronds de Jambe - Grand Battement - Splits -Sautes (jumps!) If your student has taken a ballet class before, but is not sure what these terms are (and they do not need to know the translations, but I do have a separate class for that if you are interested!) a quick internet search and a video will give them a reminder (it is very possible that your learner will say "o yes! I know how to do that!" Additional movements that we will work on in class include pas de chats and jetes (and so much more of course). Learners do not yet need to know how to accomplish these steps, but if they do we will continue to enhance their technique and make them even better! This is an ongoing class and students are welcome to join at anytime, don't be afraid to jump (or saute!) right in! Weekly class schedule includes barre work, stretching, and centre work (adage and allegro) 9/16/2024 Barre, port de bras, splits, basic allegro 9/23/2024 Barre, port de bras, splits, adage, allegro 9/30/2024 Barre, port de bras, splits, more complex allegro 10/7/2024 Barre, port de bras, splits, enchainments

Parental Guidance
For safety, please ensure that your dancer has enough space to move without running into furniture, tripping over objects or potentially falling onto furniture or objects.
Supply List
Students should wear ballet shoes. Girls should wear leotard and tights, with hair neatly in a bun (or out of the face if a bun is not possible). Boys should wear sports pants or shorts that are not too lose or baggy (tights if they are comfortable in tights) and a plain t-shirt (white is traditional, but any will be fine). A barre is not needed, but something that could be used as a barre (chair, countertop, etc) will be needed. The students camera should also be set up in a way so that I can see the students full body, as much as possible.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
