Class experience
We will be covering three major short stories: The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, The Monkey's Paw, by W.W Jacobs, and The Landlady, by Roald Dahl. Students will improve their reading comprehension skills, understanding of literary critical analysis, and discussion of literary themes and devices.
I am Naomi and I have been teaching English, Language Arts, ESOL, reading, and writing for twenty years. I love to find creative, learner centered ways to engage students and immerse them in a productive learning experience. I live in a small, New England town, and I love meeting new people from all over the world. I would love to meet you and find out what we can learn together. I have taught these stories, as well as numerous other works of literature, numerous times.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Two of the stories have content that may be a little dark and suggestions of death. The Monkey's Paw features the death of a character. The death is described as violent but no graphic details are given. The Landlady has a dark tone, and kidnapping and death are hinted at, but not overtly described, only suggested. The stories are generally deemed appropriate for middle school and secondary students, and commonly taught in school.
