I have a passion for Literature, in fact when I was a little girl, I used to hide in libraries reading until I was asked to leave! In this course, I will be that inspired teacher that leads your young learner to explore a number of classic British texts. I believe texts from all over the world are rich and diverse in their ability to capture the imagination of every child, from a different perspective. I have personally chosen classic British literature as I hold a special place in my heart for tales, and woes, escape, adventure, and magic as well as mystery. The class will cover:- - How the writer intended the reader to judge characters. - How the writer uses language to entertain or touch the reader. - How writers use irony, humour, wit and sarcasm to keep the reader hooked. - How the plot develops and why the writer changes the focus through the text. The class will be structured with learners reading 1 chapter a week of each selected book. Each week we will zoom in to the themes and language used in that chapter. Learners will know how to predict what may come next based on a deeper understanding of how the writer uses language and structure to create that specific effect. Week 1 01/01/2021 - We will look at chapter 1 of James and Giant Peach Week 2 07/01/2021 - We will look at chapter 1 of The Queen's Nose Week 3 14/01/2021 - We will look at chapter 1 of The BFG Week 4 21/01/2021 - We will look at chapter 1 of The Enchanted Wood Week 5 28/01/2021 - We will look at chapter 1 of Pippi Longstocking As the weeks develop I will offer additional classes that relate to the most popular book choices. The aim of this course is to develop a deeper understanding of reading for meaning, comprehension, decoding language and understanding the individual writer and their idea's of how to influence young readers. I have a BA in Literature, and am a fully qualified English teacher, I will guide your learner through every twist, turn and tribulation of reading. This course will teach your avid learner to: - take risks in reading. - know that reading is more than skipping through words. - understand the context of a backstory. - assess and comment on writers techniques - become a detective and ask questions of texts. - learn to debate key points and articulate the power of a story. The course will be an open friendly Q and A session, with group questions and debating activities. Commentary and written evaluation of each chapter to conclude thoughts and feelings of the character, author, setting and plot.
Learning Goals
Students will develop a healthy inquisitive mind and explore wider texts. They will increase their evaluative and critical thinking skills as well as improve their written comprehension on sharing views on which texts are preferred.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and thank you for stopping by to find out a little more about me, although I am more interested in you! I am from London and live in Buckinghamshire in a rural countryside setting. I love the peace and tranquillity of nature and the outdoors.
I have always had a passion for English, ever since I was a little girl and a fantastic teacher inspired me to read and imagine that anything was possible. Fast forward many years, that dream of becoming an English teacher turned into reality for that little girl that spent hours reading and imagining different worlds.
I graduated from Birkbeck University in London, having taken a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature. I studied everything from Shakespeare through to early 18th Century American Literature. I literally found my calling, I then went to achieve my PGCE equivalent Cert Ed in Education, where I qualified to teach young people aged 14+. In addition to this, I have been a private tutor for children ages 7+ for nearly a decade.
I love working across all age groups, as my approach to learning is both flexible and creative.
The most rewarding thing about my work, is my ability to connect with young people that do not believe in themselves. Teaching English, whether coaching to pass exams, or simply to improve written work or read for meaning, or to develop a hunger for exploring texts, is seeing ‘the moment’, the young person connects with what they are trying to achieve.
So, when I am not teaching, I love to walk my 2 dogs, cook or binge watch TV on Netflix.
If there is not something I offer, please just ask, and I will happily VA VA VOOM it up for you.
