US Grade 2 - 4
Do your learners have difficulty actually listening to what they hear? Do they remember the details? In this "class mini", a shortened version of my full length class, your learner will have an opportunity to meet me and try out a short mini lesson. We will focus on the importance of listening with understanding for details and practice following a few verbal directions in a "paper in pencil" activity as well as a fun brain fitness activity. This class is a good introductory/basic lesson to try before enrolling in my full length ongoing version of this class. This class is for 7-10 year olds. There are other separate "Listening and Following Directions" classes available for 11-14 year olds. This one-time trial version of this class will help me determine if this level is best for your learner or if one of my other levels might be better. I will make recommendations based on my observations and the content of my classes. Learners will practice using their ability to listen for details by following the teachers verbal step-by-step instructions to complete short sequential paper and pencil type activity. As they complete the activity, each step will be checked immediately for accuracy to help learners understand the expectations. Learners will be told to listen carefully for details as each instruction is given, then take turns repeating the directions. They will also be encouraged to ask for a repetition if needed. A fun 'brain fitness game' might also be included. **Prior to taking this class and to succeed, learners will need to know shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle) and the meaning of the prepositions: top, bottom, middle, above, below, next to, around, across. They also need to be able to write their first name and know their age.
Learning Goals
The goal of this class to give the learner a meet and greet with the teacher and experience my teaching style as well as get a sample of content in this class. It should also help the learner review or begin to realize the importance of listening for details and to begin to be a better listener.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
***Minimal physical activity may involve balancing on one foot, therefore learners should have a chair or sturdy piece of furniture to hold on to for balance when needed***.
