US Grade 4 - 6
Does your writing sometimes start like this? **Today I am going to tell you about cats and dogs.** Let's become better writers! In this one-time class, we will look at how to create a better, more intriguing essay introduction using strategies that can be applied to any essay! Learners will begin class by sharing their favorite place or activity they enjoy. Learners will learn how to take the information from an essay and use it to create a 3-sentence introduction. They will create a "not-so-good" introduction sentence comparing two activities or places they enjoy. They will revise that sentence into three: a hook, an introduction to the topic, and a topic sentence (thesis) using the strategies taught in the lesson. We will share our introductions with the class and see how each learner became a better writer! I am a K-12 certified ELA teacher who has taught these lessons in the classroom for several years as well as on Outschool as part of my expository writing classes and I have seen amazing introductions created. Now it's time to see your learner become a better writer! This class is a great way to see if your learner would be a good fit for my 8-week expository writing course.
