Class Experience

In this class, I will teach students how to improve their clarinet playing. Usually, my lessons start with scales, then we move on to music for the second half. However, if your student is looking for help with one specific piece or etude, we can just have a one-time lesson on that. If there's something specific your student wants to work on, please be sure to send me a scan of the music ahead of time! My approach is centered on building students' foundational understanding, not just how to play the piece they're working on this week, which is why my lessons always start with exercises on fundamentals, such as scales. I love working with beginners, but I'm comfortable teaching any level of clarinetist, even those who plan to become professional musicians! If you'd like to learn more about me and my experience as a musician and educator, please visit AlexDoyleClarinet.com.

Feel free to send me a message if you would like for me to create a section for you at a specific time you don't see on the schedule. Thanks!

There are numerous method and etude books that I like to use with students, but this depends largely on the student's experience and level. I will assess this during the first lesson, and, if you want to continue with lessons, I will send a list of recommended materials.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Cincinnati
I'm Dr. Alexandra Doyle, a clarinetist in Cincinnati. I have a doctorate in clarinet performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), one of the top conservatories in the U.S. I also absolutely love teaching– many classical musicians teach as a "side hustle," but this is my favorite part of my job!

I'm happy teaching all levels, from true beginners through advanced students who hope to pursue music as a career. I prioritize giving my students a strong musical foundation so that they are no longer reliant on me to learn new music but have the skills to grow on their own.

I have been teaching clarinet lessons since 2014, first in Houston, and now in Ohio and Kentucky. I am the adjunct professor of clarinet at Sinclair College and Thomas More University, as well as the adjunct instructor of clarinet at the Stivers School for the Arts, an arts-magnet middle and high school. Additionally, I teach at Tallant Music Studio in Fort Thomas, Kentucky.
Most weeks, I teach about 40 private lesson students in total.

I'm also active as a performer. I am a member of the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra and a founding member of the Earth, Woodwind, & Fire woodwind quintet. I have played with many orchestras in the Cincinnati and Houston areas, including the Lima Symphony, Butler Philharmonic, Kentucky Symphony, Symphony of Southeast Texas, and Galveston Symphony.

I have two cats and a dog who will sometimes make appearances during my lessons, as well as far too many houseplants. If you'd like to learn more about me, please check out my website, AlexDoyleClarinet.com. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your student soon!
