Civil Engineering: Solving Problems and Creating Societies
Curious about Civil Engineering? In this 8 week class, we will explore careers in civil engineering. Prerecorded videos will be provided. Experiments and projects will help students learn hands-on what engineers do in their careers.
Class experience
US Grade 7 - 10
Topics covered will be all disciplines included in Civil Engineering. Each week a different discipline will be introduced. We will discuss what that person does, some problems they may need to solve, and even what math/science they may use to solve those problems. Pictures, slides, and videos will be used. A project or experiment will be assigned, to be submitted with a brief summary of what the student learned in the project. These will be discussed in the class as well. Materials are...

Students will gain an understanding of the careers in Civil Engineering. They will learn example jobs within those careers as well as problems those professionals solve They will know the importance of math and science classes (ELA too) that will be needed to pursue this profession.
I am a Professional Civil Engineer. I have a masters degree in civil engineering, specializing in structures. My professional licensure is in the transportation concentration. I have taken courses in all of the other disciplines.
Homework Offered
Projects will be assigned each week for students to explore some of the issues that civil engineers may encounter or perform in their jobs. These will not be graded but feedback and discussion may be offered from the teacher.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

I love teaching about math and physics. I have a degree in engineering, but I have always enjoyed math and tutoring. I tutored math and physics in college and I am getting back into it after working as a Professional Engineer and then raising kids...
