Civics Camp: Constitution

In this 4 week course, we will learn about the history of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. We will examine the articles of government and the rights of citizens. This is a great course for any civically-minded student.

Class Experience

What will be taught?  
Week 1:  The weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation that led to the Philadelphia Convention, including the compromises and key historical figures.  Article 1 of the Constitution and the powers of Congress, including the role of a House of Representative and a Senate in a federal, bicameral system.
Week 2:  Article 2 of the Constitution and the powers of the President, including the Electoral College process and a brief history of the first 5 presidents of Early America
Week 3: Article 3 and the powers of the Supreme Court, including the key historical Supreme Court Justices of early America
Week 4:  Article 4 & 5, Bill of Rights.  The amendment process and the explanation of each of the first 10 amendments.

What topics will you cover? Why, when, and how was the Constitution and the Bill of Rights created?  Who were the people behind the creation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights? What does the Constitution and Bill of rights say about government and citizens rights and responsibilities?
How is your class structured?  Students will be given interactive notes, that include supplemental links for students.  First 5 minutes will be checking in with students, next 35 minutes will be lecture and discussion, last 15 minutes will be reviewing the lecture thru various games and activities, including discussion.
How will you teach?  I will provide digital content as well as lecture during video chat with an emphasis of group discussion and questioning.
What's your teaching style?  I encourage inquisition and curiosity with my students by engaging with them using relevant material, modern-day references, and content delivery that is age-appropriate.  
How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)?  Students will interact with me through all of the forms:  lecture, slides, games, video clips, and discussion--all engaging and novel for students to keep them interested.
Any required experience or knowledge learners need?  No, this will be treated as a beginner course.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the foundation of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  Students will learn and be able to identify the structure of the US government and the rights and responsibilities of each of the branches.  Students will be able to identify and understand the first ten amendments that are rights of the people.
