In this multi-day class, we will read the first three books in the outstanding fantasy series The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, as well as experiment with our own fantasy writing. Students will read outside of class and then meet to discuss the books and write. For the first half of the session, we will share observations and ideas about the reading. For the second half, I will give a writing prompt that will be fantasy-themed, and we will all write together and share our work (sharing...

Approximately 2 to 2.5 hours of reading per week. (Approximately 150 pages of reading per week.) Please feel free to read aloud together!

1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
