Class Experience

How do engineers design circuits that power everything from phones to robots? In this class, students will develop the skills to read circuit diagrams, build circuits, and prototype with breadboards.

Using real-world examples and interactive demonstrations, students will explore how series and parallel circuits work, how to interpret schematics, and how to power circuits safely. The class is structured with engaging visuals, hands-on activities, and guided discussions to reinforce key concepts.

Students will see circuits come to life as they analyze schematics and build their own designs. By the end of the course, they’ll have a strong foundation in practical circuit skills, preparing them for more advanced electronics and STEM projects. No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to learn!

Learning Goals

Understand Series and Parallel Circuits – Explain how current, voltage, and resistance behave in different circuit configurations.
Read and Interpret Circuit Schematics – Identify common electrical symbols and follow current flow in diagrams.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
This class involves discussions on electrical circuits and power sources, but no hazardous materials or tools are required. If students choose to experiment with real components at home, parental supervision is recommended to ensure safe handling of batteries and electronic devices.
Pre-Requisites
No prior experience is required for this class. However, students who have taken "Power Up! The Basics of & Circuits" or "Intro To Electrical Component: The Building Blocks of Circuits" may find it helpful.
Supply List
No supplies are required for this class, but students may find the following helpful for note-taking and optional hands-on activities:

✅ Notebook & pencil – For drawing circuit diagrams and taking notes.
✅ Basic calculator – Useful for simple Ohm’s Law and circuit calculations (optional).
✅ Breadboard (optional, for hands-on learners) – A solderless board for building circuits.
✅ Basic electronic components (optional, for hands-on learners):

Resistors (various values)
LEDs (light-emitting diodes)
Small jumper wires
Battery pack (e.g., 9V with a snap connector)
Small push-button switches
✅ Multimeter (optional) – To measure voltage, current, and resistance.
These materials are not required but can help reinforce learning through hands-on experimentation if desired.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
Sources Used in This Class * Instructor-Created Materials – Custom slides, diagrams, and real-world circuit examples designed to simplify concepts. * Standard Electrical Engineering Principles – Based on widely accepted scientific and engineering fundamentals. * Circuit Symbols & Schematics – Sourced from established electrical engineering notation standards. * Hands-On Demonstrations – Visual examples of breadboards, power sources, and circuit prototyping. * Real-World Applications – Examples of how series and parallel circuits function in everyday electronics.
