US Grade Kindergarten
This interactive and multi-sensory class is designed to get your learner moving while practicing letter recognition, beginning phonics, sight words, reading, and writing through high-interest weekly themes. Each week we will learn a new letter (how to write it, its sound, and words that begin with its sound) and a sight word. In this class sight word instruction is phonics based. We don't just memorize sight words- we learn to sound them out! Below is a description of the class structure that we will follow during each class meeting. ======================= Class Structure ======================= -Welcome Song -Introduce weekly theme and letter of the week. *Writing Time* -Introduce the letter of the week and its sound -I will show learners how to properly form letters. We will practice writing together and then learners will have a few minutes to practice writing on their own. -Rhymes will be used to help learners remember how to properly form their letters *Reading Time* -Learners will be introduced to our sight word of the week and use a song to help us practice spelling it. During class learners will have an opportunity to read and create sentences using a simple sentence frame that highlights our weekly sight word. ======================= Extra Practice ======================= -Each week I will upload extra practice worksheets and activities to the classroom for your learner to use outside of class. The extra practice will vary from week to week but may include things like letter recognition/letter sound practice worksheets, sight word recognition worksheets, and/or a sight word book that highlights our sight word of the week. ======================= Muting During Class ======================= Please make sure that your learner knows how to mute/unmute themselves prior to class. I prefer to keep all learners unmuted to add an interactive element to class. However there may be times that learners may be muted during class to minimize background noise and facilitate direct instruction. **********Weekly Schedule********** *September Themes* Week of September 1st: Pets (Letter of the week: Rr/ Sight word of the week: is) Week of September 8th: Pajama Party (Letter of the week: Jj/ Sight word of the week: my) Week of September 15th: Kindness (Letter of the week: Kk/ Sight word of the week: and) Week of September 22nd: Fall (Letter of the week: Tt/ Sight word of the week: the) Week of September 29th: Apples (Letter of the week: Aa/ Sight word of the week: are) *October Themes* Week of October 6th: Cozy Campfire (Letter of the week: Oo/ Sight word of the week: in) Week of October 13th: Nocturnal Animals (Letter of the week: Nn/ Sight word of the week: the) Week of October 20th: Pumpkins (Letter of the week: Pp/ Sight word of the week: this) Week of October 27th: Halloween (Letter of the week: Hh/ Sight word of the week: fun) *November Themes* Week of November 3rd: Fairy Tales (Letter of the week: Ff/ Sight word of the week: see/a) Week of November 10th: Dinosaurs (Letter of the week: Dd/ Sight word of the week: this/is) Week of November 17th: Cozy Campfire (Letter of the week: Oo/ Sight word of the week: in) Week of November 24th: Kindness (Letter of the week: Kk/ Sight word of the week: and) *December Themes* Week of December 1st: Winter Wonderland (Letter of the week: Ww/ Sight word of the week: see) Week of December 8th: Playful Penguins (Letter of the week: Pp/ Sight word of the week: is) Week of December 15th: Silly Snowman (Letter of the week: Ss/ Sight word of the week: can) Week of December 22nd: ***NO CLASS*** Week of December 29th: ***NO CLASS***
