Class Experience

Are you a parent who loves to travel?... Do you have young kids who already have a sense of wanderlust?... Do you wish you could show your children the world, but have time, financial, and life constraints?... Are you looking for a fun way to combine your love of travel with activities with your child?...

In this Ready To Learn Circle - circle time series, preschoolers will learn about life in different countries around the world starting with the United States of America followed by the United Kingdom, South Africa, China, Canada, Italy, Uganda, India, Brazil, France, Ethiopia, Mexico, Japan, Spain, Australia, and Madagascar. Our circle leaders will be your "tour guide" as they facilitate fun and engaging learning activities including storytime, show and tell, fun hands-on art and crafts activities, music & movement, easy-to-do science experiments all while reviewing pre-reading and phonics, colors, shapes, pre-math, emotions, weather and much much more.

Learning Through Hands-on Activities: We will provide a list of general supplies and the raw materials your student will need during the daily circle time activities including glue, scissors, tape, paint, and raw materials for crafts like paper plates, yarn, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, colored paper, pencils, straws, and googly eyes. Students will create a London Tour bus, African drums, and collar rings, dragons out of toilet paper rolls, weave small baskets using yarn and paper plates, to name a few. Each day your student will dance, sing, play, share and create. They will make new friends and engage in fun-loving conversations with other students. Just be sure to have an open workspace and plenty of room to move around safely.

It's time to explore! Teaching early learners about other cultures will prepare them for amazing success later in life. By learning about other countries, we open up their world to wider possibilities, to accepting and loving others despite differences, and finally, it fosters curiosity and a love of learning.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
As our main circle leader and program manager, Ms. Shanna understands the importance of cultural awareness in teaching and uses her extensive experience traveling the world to teach in a culturally responsive way. Her training as an international Montessori classroom liaison has helped her develop a baseline understanding of cultural elements outside of her own. Her circle time lesson plans are carefully curated to ensure that less widely known cultural differences are taken into consideration and properly presented to help students adapt to the class environment and feel safe and comfortable. She is an expert in creating an atmosphere of inclusivity.

She believes that it is her responsibility as the "Lead Learner" to model cultural awareness and sensitivity. Early learners are curiosity-driven and are designed to wonder about the people around them. Ms. Shanna does not expect early learners to always ask their questions in a sensitive way. Therefore, she is readily prepared to answer these questions in a way that: validates all cultural differences, explains differences in an academic, unbiased way, and show students how to ask questions and discuss cultural differences with sensitivity.

Ms. Shanna is currently enrolled in an online degree program for teachers who specialize in teaching cross-culturally.
