The transition from Kindergarten to Elementary school is an amazing phase. Most often Kindergarteners easily recognize and sound all the alphabets, count effortlessly, identify 2D shapes, and are continuously exploring the ever amazing environment around them. But how to continue this progress meaningfully so that every child enjoys the continuous process of learning and staying curious? In the sessions here, I work with the kids to build on their reading skills slowly but steadily, beginning with going over all the alphabets (upper case and lower case) , introducing vowels (long and short sound) and consonants, rhyming words, syllables, digraphs (ch, ck, sh, th), silent 'e' words, diphthongs (au/aw, oi/oy, ou/ow) etc. Gradually children learn how to read by sounding out the words. I will also be reading out stories which will not only help a child understand how to hold a book and that text is read from left to right, but also will be introduced to the plot, characters, action sequence etc in a story. This will improve the comprehension and interpretation skills of a text. Interesting math lessons which include but not limited to comparison of numbers, ordering and sorting, sequencing, addition and subtraction using number lines, tens frame, writing equation, measuring, capacity, mass, 3D shapes, temperatures, time etc will be introduced through hands on activities. Our sessions will also include simple experiments for our little curious minds, where in they will learn about solubility, gravity, different states of matter etc by doing and observing. Each week we will have a theme and the learnings would revolve around the theme. A basic frame work is given below to show how we will be working each week. The contents in it will vary from theme to theme. Hand outs will be provided to all enrolled learners in advance so that they are always class ready. This is an ongoing class so you don’t have to worry about missing out on unattended classes as each week you can look forward to something very exciting. -MARVELLOUS Monday (Theme for the week will be introduced) -THINKING Tuesday (Math / Science) -WONDERFUL Wednesday (Storytime / Art & Craft) The class will follow the following schedule: 1. Every morning we begin our day by cheerful greetings and sharing our thoughts and experiences with classmates. We also practice mindfulness and practice different ways of breathing to bring in the focus. 2. We then proceed to our morning meeting (calendar work), where in we discuss about the date and day of the week, the month and the year. (We write the date) We also discuss about the weather we are experiencing and the kind of clothes we would wear and the food we would like to eat during that time. 3. Then we move on to our learning block which depending on the day of the week we engage in different activities. 4. We get to do some of the following activity in each class: Practice writing Sing a rhyme Treasure hunt Art and Craft Listen to a story Do an experiment Read a chapter book Work on a story map Show and Tell 5. We wrap up our class discussing the learnings of the day and the exciting things we are we going to do the next day. Students will have the opportunity to speak with each other, sing along together, and see slides and video clips of what we are learning. The topics and themes will be posted 5 weeks (a month) in advance in this section which will give you a glimpse of what to look forward to the following month. Themes and worksheets for the particular week will be sent out the week prior in the classroom section. I will also provide writing practice papers of letters we are working on. The kids are encouraged to work on a pace they are comfortable in. I love it when the child walks out of my classroom feeling confident and proud of all the hard work they do. I look forward to seeing your learner in our classroom! PLEASE NOTE: I offer different times for this session, please feel free to message me to know what topics we will be taking up the week your learner joins us. My experience as a teacher for over a decade has gifted me with a large toolbox of methods and ideas that I can use to help each student feel comfortable, curious and connected to their learning experiences.
I have always believed in hands on activities which are very interactive, engaging and interesting and that is exactly what you will find in all my classes here.
I am a Post-graduate in English Literature. I also hold a Bachelor's degree in Education and a diploma in Aviation, hospitality, travel and tourism. I am a trained Montessori teacher and have taught kids from Kindergarten to Grade-12. I am also a Yoga enthusiast and have been practicing for over a decade.
When I am not teaching, either I am scribbling my thoughts on my blog page, curled up in a corner with an amazing book and a cup of coffee, or you would find me exploring places and doing some fun outdoor activity.
I am looking forward to some amazing sessions together. :)
