We will enjoy a morning meeting/circle time together, with sight word introduction/review, as well as practice with addition, subtraction, and number sense development. We will review today's date, and weather, practicing the life skill of weather appropriate attire. We will review the days of the week, months of the year, weather, seasons, and count the number of days in the month. We will use base ten models to show the number of the day in the month. Learners will interact constantly with me and one another, asking and answering questions. We will review a letter/digraph/blend, etc. and number of the week. We also talk about a shape (quadrilateral, cube, oval, sphere, rhombus, parallelogram, cylinder, etc.), and color each day. Students can share at the end of class (time permitting). The structure of each lesson is as follows: Greetings Review calendar Review the date - How do we write it? (long and short dates) Yesterday was...Today is...Tomorrow will be.... Weather Discussion of what to wear outside today Letter/digraph/blend/vowel/vowel team of the day; word families + "fundations" -practice writing, saying, sound; "I spy..." Mathematical equation of the day -pictorial representation, practice writing matching number sentences, base ten exploration and number sentences; use of virtual manipulatives (base ten blocks, rek-n-reks, etc.); discussion of odd numbers and even numbers; introduction to telling time Coins, time, and measurement; shapes -practice drawing, discussion of attributes Word of the day -read, say, spell, write Shared reading of the day's poem which includes the word of the day Show and Tell (time permitting) Week of 9/5 Letters th, wh, ch; sight word: Monday Week of 9/12 Blends cl, fl, gl; short vowels; sight word: Friday Week of 9/19 short vowels; sight word: Sunday Week of 9/26 long vowel introduction; sight word: again Week of 10/5 long vowels with magic-e; sight word: here (Subject to change based on learner's familiarity with concepts)
Learning Goals
Students will improve their recall of months, days, how to make a two-digit number using tens and ones, shapes, and new sight words through shared reading of poems.
