In this ongoing class, students will participate in a calendar routine in French! Students will sing songs, draw, and color while learning a new language.

Class Experience

In this introduction to French language, students will engage in a calendar routine in French! The calendar routine and will be the same weekly so students will begin to sing along and learn the French language. Students will also learn a new comptine (nursery rhyme or short children’s song) and have time to color or draw based on the comptine (rhyme or song). 

Our class will be structured as follows:
1. Bonjour song (hello song)
2. ABCs en français (ABCs in French)
3. Calendar - the months of the year, the days of the week, counting the date, shape patterns, colors
5. Sing new comptine (rhyme or song)
6. Introduce the new comptine (rhyme or song) in English including direct instruction of several important French words from the comptine (rhyme or song)
7. Sing new comptine (rhyme or song)
8. Color or draw related to comptine (rhyme or song)
9. Sing new comptine (rhyme or song)
10. Au revoir (goodbye)

A handout will be posted in the classroom the day prior to each class.

Comptine (rhyme or song) for the first several weeks:
Week 1, March 22: Frère Jacques (Are You Sleeping?)
Week 2, March 29: Petit Escargot (Little Snail)
Week 3, April 5: L’araignée Gipsy (The Itsy Bitsy Spider)
Week 4, April 12: La Famille Tortue (The Turtle Family)

No prior experience required. This class will include instruction in both English and French.

Miss Raz holds a bachelor’s degree in French (education) from the University of Jamestown. After finishing her degree, Miss Raz moved to central France for a year where she taught English to primary students. Furthermore, Miss Raz has taught French at a community college.
