Have you ever heard of "Cinco de Mayo"? Do you think you might know where this tradition originated? This will be a great history lesson for everyone! As a French and Spanish teacher, I found that my students often had ideas about cinco de mayo but didn't really know why it's sometimes observed in the US and some parts of Mexico. In this 45 minute class, taught in English, students will learn about the historical background and importance of this day. Questions like, what was the conflict? What other countries were involved? How is Cinco de Mayo celebrated today? We will take turns (asking for volunteers) reading a google slide presentation with short paragraphs and lots of images and embedded videos. Then, for the last 8-10 minutes we will test our knowledge using a live Quizizz game....a really fun and interactive way for kids to answer questions and show their understanding of cinco de mayo history!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to identify the historical importance of the 5th of May for Mexico, France and even the US.
