In this one time class, students fold and decorate an origami gingerbread house. They guess familiar Christmas songs and symbols, and guess gifts bought on a Christmas shopping list. Wear your holiday sweater or colors!

Class Experience

Students will use listening skills and prior knowledge to play a Christmas riddles game and a game with Christmas songs. Students will listen to poems and use prior knowledge for the Christmas shopping list game, and follow directions and use observation skills to fold an origami gingerbread house.
I'm an elementary school teacher and spent most of my career as a homeroom teacher in first and second grade. I've also worked as a reading teacher instructing in small groups for grades K-3.
For the gingerbread house:
A piece of copy paper cut into an 8 1/2" by 8 1/2" square ( copy paper is 8 1/2" x 11") or a 9" x 9" piece of solid colored origami paper. OR students can use a brown paper bag cut into a 9" square.
Crayons, markers, or colored pencils to decorate the gingerbread house. A tan or a light brown color if students want to color their gingerbread house tan or light brown, and then any other colors to decorate. If students used a brown paper bag, they do not need to color their house tan or light brown.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
