US Grade 2 - 4
In this one-time class, students will practice differentiating two common forms of figurative language: similes and metaphors. We will also discuss the meaning of the similes and metaphors. At the beginning of class we will read the definition and an example of both, simile and metaphor. Students will take turns reading the sentence and identifying if it is a simile or metaphor. Learners will also be encouraged to share what they think the figure of speech means. Your child can complete the optional worksheet as we go through the powerpoint presentation that I will present or they can just follow along. If time allows, students will take turns coming up with their own Christmas metaphors or similes for the rest of the class to decipher whether it is a simile or a metaphor.
Learning Goals

Students will be able to distinguish between a simile and a metaphor.

Hello, my name is Danielle! I am excited to teach your child! I am currently a stay at home mom of one boy who is 1 year old, and three girls, my youngest daughter is 5 years old and my older two girls, who are actually my stepdaughters, are 13 and 15 years old; they live with us 100% of the time so I consider them my own.
My husband is in the Marine Corps. We are both originally from central Illinois, we currently live in Virginia but I have also lived in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Missouri, and North Carolina.
I attended Illinois State University where I have a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I completed the Professional Development School during my senior year at ISU, which is where college students Student Teach for an entire school year rather than the traditional one semester student teaching program. I have taught Preschool and Kindergarten for 6 years in brick and mortar schools. I have also taught Middle School Special Education and 4th grade for 1 year each in the same school district. Before Outschool I taught ESL online to students in Asia.
I am passionate about education! I love taking something that children are not interested in and making it fun for them. I feel that it is crucial to teach students in a variety of ways as we all learn things differently. I am passionate about reading, I read with my children every day.
I also enjoy going to the beach, swimming in a pool, hiking, bike riding with my family, traveling, and crafting, as well as playing with my girls and watching them learn. I also enjoy doing yoga with my daughters, as well as, spending time with my family and our family dog, June Bug.
I’m excited to meet your child and help foster their love for learning! Please follow me to explore the wonderful world of learning in my classroom!
