There really is nothing as special for a loved one as receiving your handwritten words. In this one time class students will work to create a variety of poems to gift to loved ones on Christmas day. We will begin the class by looking at a variety of styles of poetry (Acrostic, Simile, Shape poetry, Haiku, Limerick, Free verse) from which students can select 2-3 styles which they will use to create their own poems. We will then work on planning and drafting 2 or 3 poems dedicated to those people that the children wish to write them for. Students will then write their poetry, share what they have written, and discuss ideas with myself and the class. By the end of the lesson all students will have at least 2 poems written and ready for them to either type or handwrite neatly ready for wrapping up and giving to the ones that they love on Christmas Day. I will be on hand to virtually correct and comment on students work if they wish to share it with me after the lesson prior to them writing it up neatly. This class is a great opportunity to produce gifts without the need to visit shops and will provide loved ones with a special Christmas keepsake.

Hi there,
I am Laura, a teacher living and working in England. I have been a teaching for 18 years and love working with children.
I initially did a BA honours in English literature and then took another year at university to train as an English teacher. I then worked in a number of different high schools and one middle school teaching English, Drama, and Media studies to students aged between 9 and 18. I also tutor students privately in my own home. I have a 12 year old son of my own and we especially enjoy working together on writing projects.
I am very excited to work with young people online and offer exciting and engaging lessons in my specialist subjects.
I am particularly enthused by teaching creative writing in all its forms and am a writer myself.
