Class Experience

Do you love Christmas movies? Me too!

In this 4-week ongoing class, students will watch a movie a week and come together to discuss the week's movie with each other and will also compete in a trivia at the end of each class.

Please note: *There are two sections of this class (one on either Tues. or Fri.; one on either Thurs, or Sat.), each featuring four different movies. You are more than welcome to join both sections, but please read the movies for each section before joining.*

*Prior to class, students will watch a Christmas movie and give each movie a star-rating and a one-sentence critique (on a Christmas movie themed worksheet). After we watch all movies and discuss them, our 5th class will be a massive trivia game that includes trivia from all off the movies. *Note: Each movie is about 2 hours long.*

Tuesday and Friday's Section (Students will be in either Tuesday's section or Friday's section, not both)
Week of December 5th - How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Netflix)
Week of December 12th - A Boy Called Christmas (Netflix)
Week of December 19th - The Christmas Chronicles (Netflix)
Week of December 26th - Jingle Jangle (Netflix)
Week of January 2nd - Mega Movie Trivia (This last class is for students who have watched all four movies)

Thursday and Saturday's Section (Students will be in either Thursday's section or Saturday's section, not both)
Week of December 5th - Klaus (Netflix)
Week of December 12th - Home Alone (Disney Plus)
Week of December 19th - Arthur Christmas (Hulu)
Week of December 26th - Disney's A Christmas Carol (Netflix)
Week of January 2nd - Mega Movie Trivia (This last class is for students who have watched all four movies)

In class, I will guide the discussion with questions around different themes to challenge students to think critically and back up their opinions. Week Five's class will be a Mega Movie Trivia Kahoot game that covers all four movies watched.

*Again, there are two sections of this class, each featuring four different movies. You are more than welcome to join both sections, but please read the movies for each section before joining.*

As this is an ongoing class, students can subscribe and unsubscribe week to week and also watch movies from past weeks. I recommend students only join the week 5 meeting if they have seen all four movies so they can actively engage in the trivia game.

Sample Class Schedule:
1. Share movie ratings and critiques
2. Movie discussion
3. Trivia

'Tis the season to spread joy and cheer and this class will do plenty of that! It will also help students improve their observation and inferencing skills, as well as their social skills in a group discussion.

Students will need access to the films. If you do not have the DVDs or streaming services, the movies are available on YouTube, Amazon Prime, iTunes, and Google Play for small fee.

I hope to see you in class!

Welcome parents and students!

My name is Erica Roberts and I am a certified elementary school teacher. I love teaching different topics to elementary and middle school aged children, especially reading, writing, and grammar! I
also love a variety of nonacademic topics like Harry Potter, cake decorating, dinosaurs, sports, sea animals, and so much more!

I have a Masters Degree in Elementary Education K-6, a Bachelors in English K-12, and I am also a certified ESL teacher. I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders for the last five years.

In addition to being a classroom teacher, I have been a camp counselor, youth football coach, high school basketball and track coach, and a personal fitness trainer for many years!

I love teaching and learning, which makes doing this job so much fun and rewarding. I believe that all learning should be engaging and relevant, which is why I like to center my classes around topics students find interesting.

I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom!
