Students will read Stanley's Christmas Adventure by Jeff Brown and complete comprehension questions outside of class. We will discuss these questions and chapter(s) in class. After discussing the questions, we will complete science and art projects related to the book. This book is for grades 2-4 and a Guided Reading level M. Activities are focused around this level. Students will read the book Stanley's Christmas Adventure by Jeff Brown. Students will complete comprehension questions. Students will complete science activities based on the chapters. Students will complete art activities based on the chapters. Students will discuss the book during class.
I have a Masters in Education degree from Azusa Pacific University. I have a current teaching credential to teach all K-8 subjects, Reading Endorsement, K-12 music, and K-12 ESL. I have taken additional workshops on how to teach reading and writing to elementary students. I have taught reading and writing in public schools, private schools, and at homeschool co-ops over the past 20 years.
Students will need to read the chapters of the book and complete the discussion questions before class.
Students will need some supplies each week. A reminder will be posted in the classroom each week. Students will need the book, Stanley's Christmas Adventure by Jeff Brown Week 1: pipe cleaners Week 2: pony beads (green, white, red) and pipe cleaners Week 3: toilet paper tubes, brown construction paper, 1 straw, markers, tape, string or yarn Week 4: 1 quart mason jar with lid, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup cocoa powder, 1 cup powdered milk, ½ tsp salt, ½ cup mini chocolate chips, ½ cup mini marshmallows, ribbon, printout Week 5: gum drops, mini marshmallows, jumbo craft sticks, plastic spoon, tape, rubber bands Week 6: thick white paper, blue tissue paper, sharpie, water in container, paintbrush
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be given feedback on the comprehension questions. Students will be informally assessed during class on their science and art projects.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
